Long gone are the days of the burlap and lace shabby chic wedding motif. As we enter into a new wedding season in 2018, most brides are opting for a carefully curated wedding theme that incorporates nods to old-world romanticism and moody pops of darker accent colors like pewter, crimson, and even black!
But lets be honest, we live in Texas. And if you’re a bride opting for a Hill Country or Brazos Valley (Bryan - College Station) Wedding, the country “burlap-y” motif just seems to fit so well into the idyllic and peaceful backdrop that the area provides. Every once in a while a bride comes along with the elevated taste level to be able to blend together new and old wedding trends into a beautiful and unique wedding that is quintessentially “them”… and quintessentially Texas.
I was lucky enough to work with Houston-based bride Natalie at the end of 2017 on her wedding to long-time love Micah at Caldwell, Texas venue Double Creek Crossing. The wedding was outdoors from start to finish so 2 weeks out from the date when we started monitoring the weather and heard the words “cold front” we started to panic. Luckily for everyone, this cold front didn’t bring any rain with it! We did however have to fight 25 mph wind gusts as we set up ceremony and reception.
Natalie walked down the aisle in an Old Hollywood inspired long sleeve Essence of Australia gown as the Brazos Valley String Quartet played “Cant Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. She carried a bouquet of seeded eucalyptus, pink garden roses, purple gerbera daisies, and white Queen Anne’s lace carefully crafted by the team at College Station based florist Urban Rubbish.
The tables at the reception were adorned with garlands of greenery, gold compote dishes filled with flowers, floating candles, and a carefully curated mix of antique glass jars and bottles that held single stems of roses, lisianthus, and daisies.
As the temperatures dropped into the evening, the carefree guests simply saw it as a built in AC system as they danced the night away to tunes from Adam Jett and 2J Production Services.
As the night rolled to a close, guests climbed into shuttle buses contracted from Texas A&M University by the couple to ensure that everyone made the journey from Caldwell back to College Station carefully.
Everything really came together on this event to make the entire day beautiful, fun, and most importantly, full of love. It really was the most perfect way to close out my 2017 wedding calendar. Bring on 2018!
